    Types of Graph Paper

It is done for simplicity and serves the same function that a key does for a map. For example, assign a value to a variable, like 10 represents 1000 units.

    • Plot your data – The next step in the process is to plot your data on the graph by marking a dot against each value. Count how many wide boxes there are on each axis. In our case, suppose there are four boxes on the x-axis and three on the y-axis. Examine the data and determine the minimum and maximum values that should be plotted. Set the scale to evenly distribute the data over the region. Choose round numbers that are easily divisible by the number of boxes available and match the data.
    • Connect the left-most dot and the dot to its right with a straight line- For connecting, pick the leftmost dot and the dot on its right. In principle, it does not matter which dot you choose, but it is convenient to choose points that pass through or near grid lines as a practical matter. Next, connect these dots with a straight line.

The title does not necessarily repeat the axis labels, such as temperature vs. time, but should provide some detail about the method that applies to the diagram.
